This sonata is a transcription of the Sonata in E minor for viola da gamba and basso continuo. The four movements alternate between expressive, chant-like and dance-like character. The original text can be seen next to the ornamented passages, which are intended as a suggestion. Confidence in the higher registers is required. If a harpsichord is used, a continuo bass instrument is to be scored, for which a separate part is enclosed. This arrangement is intended for the double bass in solo tuning, nevertheless a transposed piano part is included.
