In the instrumentation for violoncello and double bass, the duo sounds more transparent than its original for two cellos, since the different timbres of cello and double bass make the individual parts more clearly distinguishable from each other. At the same time, the double bass plays the second voice almost entirely sounding, i.e. its voice is notated an octave higher than the original and thus also quite demanding for the double bass player, since it has to be played almost always in the thumb position.
