Long unavailable and unjustly almost forgotten, this concerto is back to take its rightful place alongside the concertos of Bottesini and Koussewitzky. Some passages have been polished by the arranger, some have even been simplified and especially the expansive cadenza has been greatly shortened.
It is late Romantic music with a relatively large orchestra. One gets the impression that Richard Strauss must have been a model for Findeisen. Although the first movement is in a minor key, the concerto as a whole has a positive, light-hearted mood. The third movement in particular, with the unusual tempo marking "Lustig", bristles with mischievous irony and is guaranteed to put the listener in a good mood.
Nevertheless, this work is a really tough one for the soloist.
